Stop, Do Not Convert Template Haphazardly!

Stop, Do Not Convert Template Haphazardly!

Kang Rohman has always astonished to someone who likes to convert template haphazardly, either converts from WP theme to Blogger template, from Blogger template to WP themes or converting from some popular sites’ template like Facebook, Yahoo, Google, etc.

Wondering whether those who did the converting has already got the permission from the owner? Moreover, lately it has been rife that Premium WP themes which are clearly for sale by the owner has been converted into Blogger Templates and divided for free.

Thursday, November 17, 2011, Okezone reported that there is one of our blogger friend named Ainun Najieb getting claims from Facebook for 2 billion Rupiah due to the blogger has converted the template that used by Facebook as WP themes called "smells like facebook" and distribute it for free.

Read on Okezone site from the following link for more details:

However, this could be valuable experience for all of us, especially to the bloggers who are used to convert the template in order not to repeating the same thing to avoid in getting trouble later on.

A little advice from Kang Rohman:

  • Get used to design your own template without having to convert template from other party. The habit of template converting is a habit that kills your creativity slowly.

  • If you want to convert the template, you should ask for the permission from the owner of the template in question due to unilateral converting will be considered as ethics violation and intellectual property rights.

  • Stop converting templates/ themes which are clearly that the original templates/ themes are premium or paid. Especially if the converted templates are owned by giant company such as Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

So, stop, do not convert template haphazardly! Be a true designer and create your own design. That has already, better for you to pull it out from internet immediately before the lawsuits come.

Also for you whose currently using template that are resemble to giant sites such Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter, etc on your blog, it’s better to change your template with another template because it doesn’t preclude that you will be exposed to lawsuits from those companies.

To Ainun Najieb, hopefully this problem can be solved without having to go to through legal cahnnels.
