Kitchen Island Unwrapped

As I began to unwrap the kitchen island, Isabella and Max wanted to get in on the fun.

There were a couple details I really wanted to see.

How the SW Gray Area paint color looked with the granite...

and with the flooring.

The tape lines looked great, which allowed all the cabinetry surfaces to be painted while the granite and flooring were protected.

Before

After

The drawer and door fronts have been painted off-site and will be returned in a day or two. I'll post more photos then.

The paint color looks different in every light. At times it reads green while at other times it looks gray. It also proved really hard to capture the correct color in photographs, but it's close. (On my monitor at least!)

Regardless, having the island painted a contrasting color adds custom character to the kitchen. The color blends beautifully with the lighter cabinetry painted SW Softer Tan, the walls painted SW Universal Khaki, and the alabaster backsplash. The dark brown wood on the stool seats no longer blend into the island, creating a nice visual relationship with the brown seen in the roman shades.

Ironically, it wasn't until the island had been painted that I realized the selected color was nearly the same color used on the exterior of our home. Duh...

An unexpected benefit. Sitting in the nook both the island and an exterior wall can be seen out the slider doors...I like it!
